We have thought of everything

If you need special arrangements, we're here to help. We offer a wide range of flexible assistance, and most of it is included in the price. See below for how we can help:

Bringing children?

Don't worry, we have a family, too. We have a cot and a highchair available for toddlers or babies, and there's a stairgate at the top and bottom of the stairs. The stairs have special non-slip matting for those with their arms full of kids - and bags!

We can launder and dry cloth nappies, and can wash and dry clothes (with non-bio powder) for tinies (and their parents) for a small fee. If you need to store any kind of milk or babyfood, we will put aside a section of our fridge for you. We can cook breakfast without added salt, sugar or cow's milk for parents seeking a different option for their children.

There is a wide selection of toys, books and games suitable for a variety of ages, and our enclosed garden is perfect for a spot of fresh air after breakfast. The Castle Grounds is only five minutes' walk away. Free wireless broadband helps to soothe fractious teenagers!

We can arrange a babysitter for a fee, to help parents or carers enjoy a free evening.

Bringing sporting equipment?

We have plenty of space on our main drive for vehicles with trailers, boats, canoes, surfboards or bikes. If you are using wet- or drysuits or fishing rods, we have a drying room free to use for guests.

Guests on pedal bikes can store their bikes in our large, lockable garden shed. Motorbike riders are most welcome, and wet-weather gear can be dried in our drying room.

We have a free hose-down space for you to wash down muddy cars, bikes, canoes, boats or dogs. Anglers with bait or angling equipment are welcome to store it securely in our locked shed.

Bringing pets?

We welcome well-behaved dogs (and other travelling pets on request). If your dog can't manage stairs, please request a ground-floor room. We ask that you bring your pet's bedding and bowls and keep animals on the floor, not the beds. Please ensure that you 'scoop' after exercising your dog in accordance with local bye-laws, and keep your dog on a lead outside. Animals (except guide/hearing dogs) are not permitted in the dining-room. We have a rescue racing greyhound who enjoys the company of other dogs in her retirement!

Special diets?

We are proud of the variety of special diets we can offer. We provide gluten-free, vegetarian, raw food, vegan, low-salt, low-fat, diabetic, milk-free, egg-free, low-carb and other exclusion diets. We can cater for those on kosher or halal diets but please be aware that we have no access to halal meat, and that our kitchen is not segregated on kosher lines. We cannot guarantee nut-free status for any food. If you need a special diet, 24 hours' notice would be appreciated - but we always have vegan and vegetarian options. We also have a variety of teas and coffees - usually including Redbush, peppermint, green, black and herbal/fruit teas and hot chocolate (all FairTrade or organic wherever possible).

We can provide an evening meal, on request, which complies with your meal requirements - and you are welcome to bring your own alcohol, as we don't have a licence.

We take pride in providing FairTrade, ethical, organic and local produce wherever possible. Our eggs are all free-range, and we only serve prepared ingredients made with free-range egg (e.g.Hellman's mayonnaise).

Travelling on business?

We offer free broadband wi-fi with generally good speeds. We can provide a USB connection to a laser printer or photocopying services for a small fee. We can wash, dry and iron your clothes for a small fee or provide an iron and ironing board for free. We'll go souvenir shopping for you if you'd like to take home some Stornoway produce - and we hold a small stock of Hebridean Soap gift products which are easy to pack and fly with. And if you're travelling to meet someone, why not hold your meeting in our meeting room? We regularly play host to meetings and training sessions for local companies, and you can hire a room for up to 8 people for just £15/half-day, with additional catering menus and welcoming staff according to your requirements.

Car Hire

There are a number of car hire firms on the Western Isles. However, guests of Jannel can access preferential rates - and service - through our colleagues at Hebrides Self-Catering.

Just call 0800 234 3271 and speak to Morag or Graham, or contact them at stay@hebrides-selfcatering.co.uk and they will help you further.

If you would like to hire a bicycle, Alex Campbell at Alex Dan's Cycles can be contacted on 01851 704025. His shop is located in the town centre, at 67 Kenneth Street, Stornoway HS1 2DS. We can arrange transport for you to the shop.

There are no facilities for hiring motorbikes or scooters on the island at present.

Arriving on foot?

We can collect you from the ferry terminal or airport or provide you with details of local buses or taxis. The buses stop just outside the house, and the Hebrides' integrated bus and ferry transport system can be accessed at www.cne-siar.gov.uk/travel.htm. If you'd like to hire a car, our colleagues at www.hebrides-selfcatering.co.uk can deliver a car to you at the airport, ferry terminal or at the house. We have local maps and guidebooks available in the guest dining room.

Special access needs?

We have three ground-floor rooms which are often used by guests with limited mobility or who use wheelchairs. Please note the rooms are not completely accessible due to changes of level internally.  However, we often welcome solo wheelchair-using guests who have some mobility. If you are hearing impaired or have eyesight problems, we can provide unobtrusive assistance including large print menus and room instruction leaflets.
